Emailing Quickbooks files doesn't allow me to update

I had a client email me his QuickBooks files and it is not allowing me to update his file on my computer. I am not sure why. He has come in my office with a thumb drive and we have been able to update it that way. Why wouldn't an emialed file work the same?


You asked the Lacerte forum instead of the QuickBooks forum, but maybe you didn't save the e-mailed file to the spot that your QuickBooks program thinks you should have saved it to. When your computer "sees" a thumb drive, however, maybe QB "knows" to look there.

In each case it's a QBB file? Or a QBW file? Or a file whose extension I've forgotten, but the type where the client simply has you make journal entries and then send him back a small AIF file?

If the client is giving you a different type of file on the thumb drive, than the file that gets e-mailed, that might be the problem. Or the client might accidentally be attaching the wrong kind of file to the e-mail, but the right kind of file is there on the thumb drive.

  5. Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.
