Can prior year returns (past due) be e-filed? I thought only current year could be e-filed, but PTO gives me e-file option (which I can't turn off)

I want to paper file 2017 and 2018, but PTO doesn't let me turn off e-file option

2016, 2017, & 2018 can currently be efiled.

The IRS shuts down efiling in mid-late November; reopens in Jaunary.  After that, 2016 can't be efiled, but 2017, 2018, and 2019 can be.

I don't speak PTO, but in Lacerte (PTO's big sister) you "turn off" efiling in the client screen by un-checking the box.

And, IF you are a tax professional who prepares ten or more (or is it more than ten?) - efiling is required.  If your client does not want to, the elect out Form 8??? is needed.

You remove the check mark in the Profile for the client. That then removes the e-file. As stated, you may be required to efile. If you want paper, be sure to complete the 8948 and include it with the paper filing.

Here's wishing you many Happy Returns
