How do I enter stock sales in screen 17 so that the transaction is reported on Schedule D, Line 1a or 8a instead of Form 8949?

Screen 17.1 - 7th column over.  Leave it blank (='s basis reported to IRS).

BUT if you have chosen to "report all transactions of F 8949" in your setting, this won't override it.

Frankly, this is a ridiculous way of choosing Exception 1 for Form 8949.  Why not incorporate this into the input in screen 17.1?  Why bury this in the settings for the software?

I have discovered that you can override this by client.  In Screen 17.1, Click on the "Carryovers/Misc Info" selection in the middle left hand pane.  The last line of the first section (just before Form 4797 input) is Print all assets on Form 8949: 1=yes, 2=no [O].  Enter 2 here and the entries will move to lines 1a and 8a.
