    Dollar ridge fire in Utah. Is it deductible as casualty loss?

    This was a big fire in rural Utah.  I can't find if the President declared it a disaster.  FEMA did come in and the Governor called it a National emergency.  What do you think?  If you can find it as a national emergency let me know.

    Even though the tax law seems to say a president has to declare it, if FEMA is assisting does that mean we are good?

    I don't know if you are asking about a casualty loss or a disaster loss. They are not Synonymous:

    It would be a casualty loss because it was a vacation cabin for the TP
