HSA contributions when spouse changed plans mid-year
Taxpayer had family medical plan for self and spouse up until end of July and then went on Medicare. Spouse was on family plan up until end of July but then went onto an individual medical plan August to December. We calculated we could deduct $4,608 of taxpayer's HSA contributions ($7900 family max both over 50; X 7/12 = $4608.) Then spouse opened an HSA with $2438 (3450 x 5/12= 1438 + $1000 catch up provision = $2438. How do you enter data into Lacerte to allow Taxpayer full deduction of $4608 for the 7 month period? It is calcualting a $158 over-contribution and I don't think that is correct.
