Has anyone else noticed that ProSeries made a major error in the 2018 1099-G State and Local tax refund worksheet?

The 2018 ProSeries program did not transfer over correct information to the 2018 1099-G worksheet for any clients who deducted state and local income taxes in 2017. It has checked for everyone that they deducted Sales tax, which is rarely the case. I called Tech Support today and they said they are "working on it". They should be sending out a large alert that Tax Preparers need to check this and manually override it. I would bet that hundreds or thousands of returns are being prepared incorrectly because this is not something we normally have to check.

Yes there was an issue if you transferred early but this was corrected weeks ago. There has been a correction but you'll need to re-transfer those clients you have not worked on yet. The others you manually make the change.

If you honestly called tech support and they told you an update is coming then tech support is truly clueless.

They should send out an alert when something like this goes wrong. Many people would not expect to double check this worksheet.

I'm not talking about you not being helpful. I'm talking about ProSeries not being helpful. Calm down.

“Many people would not expect to double check this worksheet”.   Well, if they blindly trust the software, they might be better off learning how to flip hamburgers.

And please explain how telling you the truth was unhelpful?

Here is the alert Proseries released on this matter.  It was late November of 2018.  You must have transferred your clients prior.  I only transfer when they come in door so non of mine were transferred before Jan. 10th.  So no effect for me.  It was one of those yellow bar alerts that came across screen that you have to click to hide.  Plus there have been posts here about it since the beginning of 2019.  I always check here for problems before updating.

Thanks. I actually transferred everyone the first week of December, because there are quite a few clients that we do year end tax planning for. I'll have to pay more attention to those alerts - most don't effect me so I tend to x them out.

I never transfer my approx. 500 clients til the end of January, for reasons just like this.  For year-end tax planning, I use the 'What-If?" worksheet in the current year program. That worksheet always has new tax rates, etc, ….everything you need to properly advise your clients.  just x-ing out the alerts...not such a good practice.

I used the tax planner and what if for about 40 farm estimates.  So far it has been fairly accurate in predictions.  And you can print next years depreciation to adjust for 2018.

:+1:  Tax Planner.

There are a handful of returns I transfer early (mine) but lately the early release of the software has not been functional for much more than printing organizers.  QBI not calculating, HSA penalty for no good reason, various numbers not properly scaled for inflation adjustments.  This year in particular I was better off with the tax planner from the 2017 software, even though I have to do the state projection manually.
