Preparer Notes do not transfer from year to year, as they are only meant to be used as a note sent with the current year's return for electronic filing purposes.

I don't use them, so I have to ask--where are your Preparer Notes? If you use them, try using 2017, inserting your Notes, then opening 2018 and transferring. Then look for your Notes.

Unless you are testing PS, or a pay-per-return user, that is.

You can use the Client Status at the bottom for Permanent Comments, which transfer. Or the "Reminder Note" for an entry box for description or amount. That's the little pencil in the icon bar. It's also Edit Add/Edit Note or Ctrl+Shift+N, while in a spot to enter something. Also, a form called "Additional Information" transfers.

I put short notes on the info worksheet in the last name field. The note is indicated by the little pencil icon and transfers from year to year. First thing you see when you open the return....  also helps to put a date on it
If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

I see you are listed as an employee.  However, when I test transferring from 2018 to 2019, the notes do indeed transfer.  In fact, when you transfer you can do either a "Complete Transfer" or JUST the notes.

Does anyone know when you might want to transfer only the notes?  The only time I can think of is perhaps if the preparer were to use the notes for a checklist for a certain situation (i.e. anytime a family comes in with a dependent as a new student, you could import generic student notes into a current file as a reminder for pages or sections to address).  But that is the only situation I can come up with.

But the other question I have related to this thread is:  Can someone (other than Alee-W, who doesn't seem to know the software) confirm that notes are NOT transmitted to the IRS with an electronically filed return unless the box is checked?
