Creating PDF files of tax returns in ProSeries

This article will help you:

  • Create PDF of a tax return
  • Create a PDF with only specific forms
  • Create PDFs of multiple returns at once

To print a return to PDF:

  1. Open the client's return.
  2. From the File menu, select Create PDF File.
    • You can choose to Display PDF after save to automatically open the PDF using your default PDF viewer.

  3. Check the box to choose the Filing Copy, Client Copy or Preparer Copy of the return.
  4. Check the box for any state returns you need to include.
  5. Click on Print.
  6. The Printing Message Log will display and show you where the PDF is saved.

Change PDF File Names

  1. From File menu, choose Print Options.
  2. In the Print Center, click on Printer, PDF, and DMS Setup.
  3. On the right side of the screen under PDF Files uncheck the box "Use default file names for PDF files for returns".

Batch print and create PDF files

  1. In HomeBase, select the returns to printed to PDF files. Use the SHIFT key to select blocks of returns and the CTRL key to select various returns.
  2. From the File menu, select Create PDF File.
  3. Then follow the steps to "Print and create a single PDF file from within a return" starting with step with Step 2 (above).

Print and create a PDF file containing only selected forms

  1. Open the client's return.
  2. From the File menu, select Print.
  3. On the left side of the Print Center, choose Print Selected Forms.
  4. In the Print Selected Forms area, choose Selected Forms.
  5. On the right side of the Print Center, in the Print line, uncheck the Printer box and check the File (PDF) box.
  6. To identify the selected forms to printed, click the Choose button.
  7. In the Please Select Form(s) to Print window, choose the forms you want to print from the forms in the client's file. Hold down the CTRL or SHIFT key to select more than one form.
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the Print Selected Forms area, click Print.
