After installing the 2011 DMS update (upgrades to version 9.0), attempts to print to DMS from Lacerte 2008 and earlier versions are not working.  Lacerte may simply close, or an error may be displayed as shown below.

Windows 7 or Vista:

2008 Lacerte Tax for Windows has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Please close the program.

The resolution involves modifying the Windows registry. It is strongly suggested to backup the registry before proceeding.  If you do not feel comfortable navigating in the Windows registry, please contact your IT technician or our technical support for assistance.

To Resolve this error please follow the instructions below:

(Note there are different instructions for 32- and 64-bit systems)

For 32-Bit Operating Systems (Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows Vista)

  1. Click Start then Run.
  2. Type in regedit and click OK.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lacerte\Common
  4. Create a new String Value in the right hand column, by right-clicking there and choosing New -> String Value.
  5. Name the String Value AmyUni45Location exactly as shown.
  6. Double-click the new String Value and in Value Data field, type in C:\Program Files\Intuit\DMS\PrntDrvr

NOTE:  The PrntDrvr path above is the default path to the PrntDrvr folder.  If you have installed DMS to a different location then your PrntDrvr folder will be in a different location also.  If that's the case, make sure the path you are entering is the same as for the AmyUni40Location registery entry.

  1. Click OK to save the changes.
  2. Close the Registry Editor and attempt to print to DMS from 2008 Lacerte and prior again.

For 64-Bit Operating Systems (Windows 7 and Windows Vista)

  1. Click Start then type run in the Search field and hit Enter.
  2. Type in regedit and click OK.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lacerte\Common.
  4. Create a new String Value in the right hand column, by right-clicking there and choosing New -> String Value.
  5. Name the String Value AmyUni45Location exactly as shown.
  6. Double-click the new String Value and in Value Data field, type in C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\DMS\PrntDrvr

NOTE:  The PrntDrvr path above is the default path to the PrntDrvr folder.  If you have installed DMS to a different location then your PrntDrvr folder will be in a different location also.  If that's the case, make sure the path you are entering is the same as for the AmyUni40Location registery entry.
