How to enter your ERO PIN:

  2. Select Preparer Information.

An Electronic Return Originator (ERO) PIN is a numeric representation of the preparer's signature used on Form 8879. It's not assigned by any taxing agency, but rather self-selected. It can be any 5-digit number other than all 9's or all 0's. Refer to IRS Pub. 1345 for more information.

To enter the ERO contact name:

  1. Click PCG--UI_PTO_navbar-settings.png in the lower-left corner.
  2. Select Preparer Information.
  3. Check the DEFAULT option for the preparer assigned as the default ERO contact.

To verify your PTIN:

  1. Click PCG--UI_PTO_navbar-settings.png in the lower-left corner.
  2. Under YOUR FIRM, select Preparer Information.
  3. Click on the preparer name you need to edit.
  4. Check the PTIN Verification box.

These steps are required to clear the error "e-file: Please verify that the PTIN has not changed from prior year. (ref. #54810)."
