How to copy or back up client files using ProSeries

SOLVEDby Intuit147Updated November 16, 2023

You can copy client files to a zip drive, flash drive, or CD and back them up.

Before you start:

  • Don’t copy files directly to the root directory on your zip or flash drive, as only a limited number of files can be stored there.
  • If you store your client files in multiple folders, set the client data file folder to one folder at a time.
    • You'll need to repeat the copy/backup command separately for each different directory.
  • If you’re burning to a CD, you may need to format it first.

Follow these steps to copy or back up client files:

  1. Go to HomeBase and select the client files you want to back up.
  2. From the File menu, select Client File Maintenance.
  3. Choose Copy / Backup.
  4. Enter your target directory in the Set target directory field.
  5. Click on Backup client(s).

ProSeries doesn't offer a cloud backup service for desktop users.  However, you may choose any one of the many vendors that do offer cloud backups to back up your data.

We suggest performing a manual backup or scheduled backup when the program isn't in use and not using "Real-time Sync" backups. The information below is for backing up your data—not for running the program in the cloud, as this is only supported if your using Intuit Hosting. If your interested in running ProSeries in a hosted environment, learn about Intuit Hosting here.
